“Someone very wise once said to me that love is a muscle. When we train for a sport, our coaches push us to our limits such that even if in the moment we feel like it isn’t possible to run any faster, swim any harder or jump any higher, we do it anyway. We exert ourselves such that at the end of training, not only are we are faster and stronger, we realise that we are capable of things that we didn’t think we were capable of. In the same way, it is when we feel that we cannot love someone any more (or even at all) that we should because that is how our capacity to love will grow to unexpected proportions.”
